A weekend in the mountains can be a great idea to spend your free time away from the city. Crystalline air, eye-catching views, sky blue and sun - all this will allow you to forget about the problems of everyday life and reset yourself as much as possible. Where is it worth going for a weekend in the mountains in Lower Silesia? A place directly created for a short rest is the picturesque location of Zieleniec, as well as the Kłodzka Basin surrounding it.

Where in the mountains for the weekend?

Ideas for a weekend trip to the mountains practically do not end. There are many interesting places to choose from — for example our famous Tatra Mountains or the Bieszczady Mountains. Tourists from Lower Silesia, in order not to waste all day commuting, however, are most likely to choose massifs located in the vicinity of Zieleniec and Kudowa Zdrój, including the Stołowe Mountains, Orlickie and Bystrzyckie Mountains. There are no crowds in them, but you can take advantage of a lot of non-obvious, interesting attractions.

A trip to the mountains for the weekend does not have to involve traversing trails from morning to evening, although, of course, there is nothing wrong with this. We have already written about the Table Mountains, Orlické and Bystrzyckie Mountains in the context of active spending time in separate articles. Below, however, we will present unusual ideas for a trip to the mountains, among which there will be neither movement nor sightseeing. See what attractions hide in the surroundings of Zieleniec and the Kłodzka Basin.

Cool and interesting places in the mountains for the weekend

1. Bear's Cave

A weekend in the mountains can be spent getting acquainted not only with trails, but also mysterious places. One of them is the Bear Cave in Kletony, which was discovered quite accidentally during marble mining. In its interior there are extremely original speleothems, reminiscent of icicles. You can admire these natural wonders by traversing the route accessible to visitors with a length of as much as 360 m.

2. Chapel of the Skulls

An interesting place in the mountains for the weekend is also the historic chapel of skulls located in Czermna. There are about 3,000 human remains inside, with which the walls and ceiling of the object are lined. However, their exact amount no one really knows, because it has never been counted. According to some sources, there may be up to 25,000 remains in the chapel!

3. Mount Guzowata

I don't think anyone can imagine spending a weekend in the mountains without enjoying the picturesque views. But no longer everyone wants to conquer peaks with their own strength. Fortunately, in the area around the Kłodzko Valley there is a place suitable for more comfortable tourists. We are talking about the observation deck on Mount Guzowata, which can be reached on foot, by car and even by bicycle. From the summit located at an altitude of 450 m above sea level, there is a beautiful panorama of the Radkovsky Lagoon, Table Mountains and Broumov Walls.

4. Underground city Osówka

The underground city of Osówka is a great idea for a weekend in the mountains. Built in 1943-45 by the Third Reich, this war facility hides nearly 2 km of underground routes. It contains guardhouses, corridors, halls, as well as structures located on the surface of the earth. There are hearings that after the end of the war, the Germans planned to place scientists in Osówka to develop a prototype of the atomic bomb. According to others, trucks with gold and a “gold train” were hidden in the underground city, which are still waiting to be discovered.

5. Rock town of Adršpach

Where in the mountains for the weekend? When visiting the surroundings of Zieleniec and Kudowy Zdrój, you do not need to limit yourself to places located in Poland. It is worth crossing the border into the Czech Republic and visiting the breathtaking Rock City. It features amazing rock formations, an emerald lake and beautiful waterfalls. Willers can also take advantage of an additional attraction and walk the Wolf Gorge towards Teplickie Rocks, and then return to the starting point by train.
