Let yourself be carried away by the adventure and discover how beautiful it can be when nature is just coming to life!
When is the best time to go to the mountains?
Nothing prevents you from visiting the mountains in spring. However, it is worth remembering that the higher the terrain, the more difficult the conditions on the trails can be. On some peaks, snow cover can last a really long time, sometimes even until May or June. Therefore, when considering where to go to the Polish mountains in spring, you must also take into account this factor — especially when you have no experience in hiking in the snow.
A relatively safe period for a spring trip to the mountains is the end of April/May, when the conditions on the trails are already relatively stabilized and the greenery gradually covers the area.
Where to the mountains in the spring?
When deciding on the Polish mountains in spring, you can choose from many directions. However, if you want to actually relax close to nature and at the same time away from crowds, it is worth betting on strands that are not so popular, but are equally picturesque. A good example here are the Orlické Mountains and the neighboring Bystrzyckie Mountains located on the border of the Czech Republic and Poland, in the Central Sudetenland. Thanks to the fact that they are quite gentle and extensive — the highest among the peaks of both ranges is the Great Desztna (1115 m above sea level), which is located in the Czech part of the Orlické Mountains — it is an ideal place for a trip to the mountains with children in spring.
Orlické Mountains — a paradise not only winter
Although the Orlické Mountains are an ideal place for sports in winter, interesting prospects of leisure await there in other seasons. These mountains not only look beautiful in spring, but also offer a unique peace that is difficult to find in other mountainous areas of the country. You can hike on them along many trails, but they all converge in one locality — Dusznikach-Zdrój. The great advantage here is that thanks to the varied degree of difficulty, children can also be taken on the routes. Moreover, spring in the Orlické Mountains can also be admired from the perspective of a bicycle, which is facilitated by well-paved trails adapted to this type of tourism.
And where in the Orlické Mountains to go in spring to experience as much as possible and avoid the crowds? In this case, it is worth recommending above all the previously mentioned Great Desztna and Orlica (1084 m above sea level). When choosing a specific route, it is also worth paying attention to additional attractions that can be seen along the way, e.g. Czechoslovak fortifications from the period before World War II, or shrines and churches scattered throughout the surrounding villages.

Bystrzyckie Mountains — relaxation in nature
The Bystrzyca Mountains, on the other hand, is a very quiet and peaceful region. There are a lot of forests and few people, so you can feel like a real deaf there. Thanks to the little varied terrain, it is an ideal place where you can go to the mountains with children in spring without worrying about the fact that they will not cope with the mountain conditions.
Among the most picturesque trails of the Bystrzyce Mountains, it is worth mentioning above all those leading to Sasanka (985 m above sea level), which is their highest elevation, as well as Jagodna (977 m above sea level). At its top there is a 23-meter observation tower, and at the foot of the shelter PTTK Jagodna.
In the spring in the Bystrzyckie Mountains, apart from hiking, you can also go cycling. The route adapted to two-wheelers leads from the Szarotka shelter in Lasówka and clogs the loops leading through the Twarde Source and the Sandy Road.
