In Poland, the program includes facilities scattered throughout Lower Silesia, including castles and palaces of the Kłodzko Basin. Which ones are worth seeing?

Książ Castle in Walbrzych

When it comes to castles to visit, the Kłodzka Basin can boast of having one of the largest in our country. Książ Castle is the third largest building of its kind in Poland. It has about 11 thousand m2 and more than 400 rooms spread over 5 floors. Its ovules as a structure may even date back to the 13th century, however it was later rebuilt and expanded many times. Currently, its body is kept in the Baroque-Neo-Renaissance style. Książ Castle has a museum that can be visited all year round. As part of the purchased ticket, you can also see the Palm House.

There are stunning views from there. There is also a lookout point nearby. Recently, this building, like other castles and palaces of the Kłodzko Basin, can be visited. There is also a restaurant.

Grodno Castle

The Grodno estate is one of the best examples of how the border had on the castles and palaces there. The Kłodzka Basin was famous for its numerous strongholds, which, located in strategic places, were supposed to help guard against threats from the outside. Grodno Castle was built over 700 years ago on the Choina Mountain at an altitude of 450 m above sea level. It is one of the best preserved strongholds of Lower Silesia. It can be visited independently (on weekends and holidays) and with a guide (on days commonly).

The facility is located about 70 km from Zieleniec, so it should take no more than 1.5 hours to get to it.

Palace in Gorzanów

The Gorzanów Palace was erected in the middle of the 16th century and then rebuilt. Thanks to its original architecture and interesting buildings, it certainly delighted in its heyday, at the same time differing from other palaces in the Kłodzko Valley. Unfortunately, it has fallen into disrepair and today it is gradually being restored. However, it can be visited for free, although a renovation donation is welcome.

The palace is located about 30 km from Zieleniec.

Marianna Orańska Palace in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki

This architecturally interesting residence once belonged to the Dutch royal Marianna of Oranska. Nowadays, it is one of the most characteristic monuments that the Kłodzka Basin has in general when it comes to castles. The map of attractions of this complex is particularly extensive and includes: a renewed palace on a rectangular plan with 4 towers and terraces arranged in cascading, a family mausoleum, the ruins of a hunting lodge, a castle boiler room, as well as more than 1 km2 of the park made available to the public.

Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg

Or maybe go a little further than the Kłodzka Basin itself? The castles and palaces available in the area impress to no less extent, and at the same time offer completely new perspectives of rest. The castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg was built in the 12th century, but later it was rebuilt many times. In the 16th century, changes were introduced in the Renaissance style modelled on the royal castle in Kraków, which also made the Brest residence known as “Silesian Wawel”. Today, the castle functions as a museum. The property also hosts various events and has a restaurant.

Brzeg from Zieleniec is about a 2-hour drive away. However, this route can be planned to see additional attractions along the way.
