Kudowa-Zdrój — a city full of attractions

Kudowa-Zdrój is a town of less than 10,000 people located in Kłodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. Located in a valley surrounded by Stołowe Mountains and Orlickie Mountains, it is distinguished by a milder climate than other towns in the region. Several hiking trails run through them: red being the Main Sudeten Trail (Karłów — Duszniki-Zdrój), green (Pasterka — Crossroads pod Lelkowa), blue (Kulin Kłodzki — Kudowa-Zdrój), yellow (Tashów — Kudowa-Zdrój) and black (Kudowa-Zdrój — Pod Ptasznicy).

However, these routes are not the only attractions in the area. Kudowa and its surroundings are famous for its healing waters, and the city itself is a famous health resort. There are sorrel bicarbonate — sodium — calcium and ferruginous and boric, which can be used for bathing and direct consumption. Want to know more about the area? What to see in and around Kudowa-Zdrój?

Kudowa-Zdrój has tourist attractions that are unique not only on the scale of our country, but also in Europe. Some of them are connected with the rich — and rather turbulent — history of the region, which has not been bypassed by changes in territorial affiliation. During its existence, this city passed from hand to hand, being within the borders of Bohemia, Prussia and eventually Poland.

The most important attractions of Kudowy-Zdrój are:

  • Chapel of the Skulls

Skull Chapel is located about 1 km from the city centre. The facility was built in the second half of the 18th century for the purpose of an ossuary, that is, a place where the bones and ashes of the dead were stored. Its inner walls and vault cover about 3,000 skulls and bones of people who died as a result of wars and epidemics of disease. Another 20-30 thousand remains were placed in the crypt under the chapel. The Chapel of Skulls is unique, and not only in comparison with other attractions available in Kudowa-Zdrój. There are only 3 such places in Europe.

  • Spa Park and Water Pump Room

Thanks to the features of the spa, which Kudowa-Zdrój has, the tourist attractions of the city are even more numerous. Park Zdrojowy is located practically in the center of the city. It was founded on the model of English gardens and to this day impresses with rich, sometimes quite exotic, vegetation. In the park and in the water pump room located at one of its ends there are shots of mineral springs named Moniuszko, Marchlewski and Śniadecki.

  • Movable nativity scene

Other interesting attractions in Kudowa-Zdrój are located in the Czermna district. Among other things, there is a movable nativity scene from the beginning of the 20th century. Its author is Franciszek Stepan, who devoted 20 years to its performance. It consists of about 250 figurines of people made of linden wood. All the characters move, giving an extraordinary spectacle depicting the life of the population from Czermna and the surrounding area from more than 100 years ago.

Kudowa-Zdrój — attractions for children

Kudowa-Zdrój is also attractions for children! The youngest — and probably the older ones too — will certainly like the Toy Museum Fairy Tale. On 300 square meters of space, several thousand exhibits related to European toymaking were collected. Among them there are theatres, toys from movies, blocks, school supplies, soldiers, dolls and much more.

A place worth visiting is also the Mountain Emotion Rope Park in Kudowa-Zdrój. These types of tourist attractions are designed for slightly older children. Among others, there is a high-altitude obstacle course, a jump from a pole, a fire rope or multiple skis. The Rope Park is located at Góra Parkowa, in the center of the city.

Attractions in the surrounding area of Kudowa-Zdrój

Although Kudowa-Zdrój itself is worth a visit, the attractions in the vicinity of the city are equally interesting. In the village of Lewin Kłodzki there are ruins of Homole Castle. A wooden walkway leads to them, from which there are beautiful views of the surrounding meadows. Dinosaur Park was built in Karłowo. It is located near the trail to Szczeliniec Wielki, which is the highest peak of the Table Mountains.

In turn, thanks to the fact that this city is practically on the border with the Czech Republic, it is really close from Kudowa Zdrój to attractions in the Czech Republic. Among them, it is especially worth mentioning the Rock Town of Adršpach or the Safari Zoo in Dvůr Králové.
