The Table Mountains in winter seem even more beautiful in summer, but is it possible — and worth it — to visit them during this period of the year? See which of the attractions there are also available outside the tourist season and learn more about the winter conditions in the Table Mountains.

Is it possible to go to Table Mountains in winter?

In the Table Mountains, trails are also available in winter, but navigating them is carried out on your own responsibility. During this period, tourist services are not carried out, which means that the passage through the ticketed routes in the summer season in Szczeliniec Wielki and in the Bisterous Rocks is free.

When visiting winter attractions in the Table Mountains, however, it is worth remembering that not all parking lots during this period are open. It is not possible, for example, to enter the upper parking lot at the Wrong Rocks. The toilets that are available on it during the tourist season also do not work.

Table Mountains — winter attractions

What most attracts lovers of hiking to the Table Mountains during winter are two attractions, which — not without reason — are also very popular in summer.

The first one is Szczeliniec Wielki. Reaching 922 m above sea level, the peak is the highest point of the Table Mountains and as such is classified as the Crown of Polish Mountains. To climb it, you need to overcome 665 stairs, while its mount is marked a tourist route about 5 kilometers long. It is necessary to know that winter trails in the Table Mountains after Szczeliniec go slightly differently and lead successively through rock formations: Liczyrzepa Throne, Africa, Kwoka, Elephant, South Terraces, from where you should return along the same route. The passage to the Rock Labyrinth through Hell's Kitchen, Hell, Purgatory and Heaven is not available. In Szczeliniec there is also a shelter dating from the 19th century, which is open all year round.

The second of such eagerly visited winter attractions in the Table Mountains is the Vicious Rocks. This gorgeous labyrinth made of monumental rock blocks impresses just as much regardless of the season. When going to explore it, however, it should be borne in mind that Table Mountains National Park officially closes its routes for winter, which means that walking on the Vicious Rocks is carried out only at your own risk.

Is there snow in the Table Mountains?

When planning mountain trips in winter, it is worth remembering that weather conditions in individual parts can be variable - and this regularity also includes Table Mountains. Winter in this area can last up to 16 weeks, with snow cover for up to 75 days in peak parts. It is coldest here in January — the average monthly air temperature is just over -3 degrees Celsius.

Table Mountains in winter with a child

The Table Mountains, due to the attractions in winter, are definitely worth a visit. Is it possible to go with children? What should be remembered when deciding on such a trip?

Since the trails in the Table Mountains are officially closed in winter and the national park is not responsible for potential situations that may occur on hiking and cycling routes, the risk of taking a child to some mountain areas should be well estimated. When entering the trail, all responsibility for the child lies with the parent or guardian.

However, it is worth knowing that the Kłodzko Valley also has many other interesting attractions that you can see — check out holidays with children in the Kłodzka Valley.
