Where are the Orlicke Mountains?
The Orlické Mountains are one of the mountain ranges of the Central Sudetenland and part of the Kłodzko land. They are located in the immediate vicinity of the Bystrzyckie Mountains, Orlicki Foothills and Orlicki Foothills, extending to the territory of Poland and the Czech Republic, with only a small part of them lying in our country. The only town within this range on the Polish side are Duszniki-Zdrój along with the districts of Zieleniec, Border and Podgórze, and the villages of Witów, Jawornica and Zimne Wody.
The highest peak of the Orlické Mountains is the Velika Deštna (Czech Republic: Velká Deštná) with an altitude of 1115 m above sea level. In Poland, this title falls on the border of Orlica (1084 m above sea level).
Mountains in winter — where to go?
Winter is the perfect time to travel to the mountains. When looking for rest, however, it is sometimes worth abandoning these most besieged directions and bet on more intimate regions, such as, for example, the Orlické Mountains. In winter, this place is even more beautiful, and the multitude of attractions — and not only those associated with the possibility of snow madness — means that everyone here will find something for themselves. Entrance to Orlica
Orlica, as the highest elevation of the Orlické Mountains on the Polish side of the border, is classified as the Crown of the Polish Mountains. The entrance to it is quite gentle, so it is worth visiting it also when you visit the Orlickie Mountains in winter. A big attraction of this place is the observation tower located at the top, measuring as much as 25 meters.
Walk to PTTK Orlica hostel in Zieleniec
The building in which the shelter is located is one of the oldest buildings in the whole of Zieleniec. What particularly catches the eye is its original architecture. The on-site restaurant offers local cuisine, where you can relax and regain strength after a walk.
Visiting the Masarykova chalet on the Czech side of the border
The characteristic building of this hostel is one of the most famous and recognizable places in the Czech Orlické Mountains. In winter, it is especially happy to visit skiers scurrying on the surrounding slopes or overcoming cross-country routes. It is also a very good vantage point — in the right weather you can see from here, among others, the Bystrzyckie Mountains or the Śnieżnik Massif.
Winter sports in Zieleniec Sport Arena
Zieleniec Sport Arena is the largest winter sports centre in Poland. There are as many as 28 kilometers of well-maintained slopes and 31 lifts of different lengths. As winter in the Orlické Mountains lasts longer than in other regions of Poland, suitable conditions for winter sports can be maintained here for up to 4-5 months a year.
Cross-country trails in Orlické Mountains
Winter in the Orlické Mountains is also a great opportunity to practice cross-country skiing - there as many as 212 kilometers of cross-country trails of varying difficulty, thanks to which beginner skiers will also find trails to the best of their abilities.
Visit Dusznik-Zdrój and visit to the Museum of Papermaking
Duszniki-Zdrój is a beautiful spa town, which is worth visiting, for example because of the spa park originating in the 19th century, or the Museum of Papermaking, in which, apart from traditional exhibitions, interactive exhibitions and paper drawing workshops dedicated to both adults and children are offered.
