Broumov Walls — the most beautiful trails in the Czech Republic

Broumovske Walls, or as anyone prefers — Broumovske steny, is one of the most picturesque regions of the Czech part of the Table Mountains. It impresses with monumental rocks, extensive views and less crowded trails than the popular Polish Wrong Rocks. It is no wonder that Broumow Walls is considered an ideal place for a day trip from Zieleniec or Kudowa Zdrój. What routes are especially worth considering? Where to park? We present practical information for tourists.

Broumovské stěny — hiking trails for everyone

As for Broumovské stěny, the trails are varied. The most frequently chosen route is the approach to the Hvězda Chapel, a small Baroque structure located on a rock ridge, which is an excellent vantage point over the entire area. From the terrace in front of the chapel there is a breathtaking panorama of the city of Broumov, surrounding villages and mountain ranges up to the Giant Mountains. The trail leads from the parking lot located directly under Hvězda, has a gentle course and does not require much effort, which is why it is great for families with children and less trained tourists. The route is marked in blue and takes about 15 to 20 minutes of leisurely walking, which makes it an ideal option for a short walk combined with admiring the views and relaxing at the chapel.

For those looking for a longer and more demanding trip to Broumovské stěny, the route to Koruna, the highest peak Broumovských stěn will be suitable. The trail starts at the village of Božanov and is marked with the color red. Initially, it leads through picturesque meadows, and then enters a dense forest. On the way, it is worth stopping at natural viewpoints, from where you can see vast glades and rock walls resembling fortresses. The approach is steeper than to Hvězda, so it is worth getting comfortable shoes and a supply of water, but at the top the prize is a vast panorama of Broumov, the Orlické Mountains and the distant Giant Mountains, which can be seen exceptionally clearly on clear days.

Another interesting place is Božanovský Špičák, the second highest peak in Broumovských stěnach. It is led by a calm but varied route through a dense forest, where every now the views of the Broumov valley open up. The trail marked with yellow starts from the center of Božanov, passes old farms and rises gradually towards the rock labyrinths. Along the way you can see several small vantage points with wooden benches, ideal for a short rest. The whole one-way passage takes about two hours, and the summit itself rewards with peace, tranquility and a wide horizon. This is an excellent option for people who want to avoid larger crowds and fully enjoy the tranquility of nature. Most of the routes are well marked, but going to the Broumovské stěny, map or tourist app is worth having on hand.

In the case of such a place as Broumovské stěny, hiking trails have different levels of difficulty, so every tourist will find a suitable variant for himself. Those with less experience can choose shorter sections leading to viewpoints, and more advanced hikers can combine several sections into a longer walk. Most of the routes are available for tourists travelling with pets, however, according to the regulations of the Broumovské stěny with a dog, you can only visit it on a leash.

Broumovskie Walls — parking and price list

The largest parking lot for tourists visiting Broumov Walls is located at the end of the village Slavný. It is from here that it is most convenient to start longer hikes on the Czech side of the Table Mountains. The Hvězda Chapel itself is a landmark tourist point and a popular starting point for shorter walks, however the parking lot next to it is smaller. The fee for a stop at Slavný is approximately 60 CZK, which is about 12 PLN. You can pay in Czech crowns, and sometimes also in PLN. Parking is paid during the tourist season, while in the off-season you can often use it for free. There are also other parking lots in the area — in Božanova or by the access roads to the viewpoints. In Horní Božanova there is free parking on the yellow trail. When it comes to Broumov Walls, parking is best paid for in cash. Entrance to the trails is free regardless of the season, therefore, when it comes to Broumovskie Walls, the price list applies only to parking charges.

Practical information for visitors

The best time to visit is spring and early autumn, when the trails are not crowded and the weather is conducive to walks. In summer, temperatures can be high, so it is worth taking a supply of water. In autumn, the views of Broumovské stěny look especially picturesque thanks to the colorful leaves on the trees. In winter, most trails are accessible, but it is recommended to use proper footwear as rocks and paths can be icy. Before leaving, it is worth checking the current tourist announcements and weather forecast.
